The two-day seminar on "The religious factor in ideological struggle: expectations from the media" concluded its work with the third session dedicated to the topic "The role of the media in the organization of religious education: the main methods of propaganda and influence" was held in Shusha.
In the session moderated by Elshad Miralam, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the State Committee for Work with Religious Institutions, the editor of "525-ci Gazet" Seyfeddin Huseynli noted that the modern media acts as an important element in the formation of public opinion in addition to its functions such as education and propaganda. The media tribune plays an important role in the development of citizen-state, citizen-public sector, citizen-religion relations and its establishment on sound foundations. The Azerbaijani media in this direction is building its activities without recognizing any religious-national differences.
Saadat Mammadova, deputy chairman of the Azerbaijan Press Council, said that one of the biggest roles in the proper conduct of religious education falls on media representatives. Emphasizing that propaganda in social media is not as effective as traditional media, S. Mammadova said that media representatives should be interested in increasing the effectiveness of traditional media compared to social media, which is a free, borderless space. At the same time, he spoke about the effects of artificial intelligence on the religious education, propaganda system and the importance of preparing specialized media content and television programs.
The dean of the Faculty of Journalism of Baku State University, Vugar Zifaroglu, gave a presentation on "The main manipulative directions and media in the religious issue", and touched on the propaganda and influence tools used by radical religious trends, the directions of formation of information fields and other issues. V. Zifaroglu made a broad comment on the influence of the electronic media, which is engaged in the promotion of religious movements financed by various countries, on the Internet media based on the information transmitted by those organizations to the independent media organizations in our country. He emphasized the negative manifestations of targeting radical ideas, including national values, secularism, and the basic principles of the state through social media propaganda.
Speaking at the end, Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee, recalled President Ilham Aliyev's opening speech at the first session of the Milli Majlis of the Seventh convocation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which was considered a road map for each of us, and said that one of the main tasks facing our country is to address the threats to Azerbaijan in the ideological struggle. The Chairman of the State Committee emphasized that a sensitive approach to challenges in the ideological field is of particular importance. R. Mammadov expressed his gratitude to the representatives of participating institutions and members of the media for the effective exchange of ideas held at the seminar and noted that all proposals will be considered.
The two-day seminar on "The religious factor in the ideological struggle: expectations from the media" ended with the participants' visit to the cities of Khankendi, Khojaly and Aghdam after discussions.
