Chairman of the State Committee visited religious places of worship in Gobustan
On January 26, Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, visited the “Juma” and “Heydar” mosques, as well as the “Diri Baba” mausoleum located in Gobustan city.
After reviewing the conditions established at these religious sites, Mr. Mammadov held meetings with members of the clergy and stressed that state–religion relations in the country are based on sound and stable principles. He noted that the political course set by National Leader Heydar Aliyev continues successfully under President Ilham Aliyev. He also emphasized that preserving national and spiritual values and strengthening an environment of tolerance and mutual respect are essential for the sustainable development of society.
Referring to the significant initiatives implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation under the leadership of First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, the Chairman highlighted the Foundation’s projects aimed at protecting historical and cultural heritage, national and spiritual values, as well as restoring religious sites and material cultural monuments. He said these efforts make a substantial contribution to strengthening Azerbaijan’s traditions of multiculturalism as a multiethnic and multiconfessional country.
Mr. Mammadov also noted that the proper promotion of religious diversity plays a key role in preventing attempts to incite discrimination and conflict within society. He underscored the importance of educational initiatives, including enhanced cooperation with religious organizations, and emphasized that religious figures bear a particular responsibility for the moral upbringing of individuals and for instilling national and spiritual values. He further stated that regular visits to places of worship are intended to assess activities on site and discuss future priorities.
In response, religious representatives reaffirmed the support of the Azerbaijani state’s policy of tolerance and multiculturalism across all segments of society, including religious communities. They also expressed their readiness to continue actively contributing to efforts to preserve and promote religious and moral values.
